The Kingdom of Babkha is administered as a democratic Constitutional Monarchy under a Constitution granted in 2000.

The Constitutional Monarchy

The Babkhan monarchy can be traced to the beginning of Babkha's existence as a figment of imagination of an Australian boy of Persian descent in 1992. Babkha today flourishes under the reign of His Imperial Majesty Tahmaseb Shah Abakhtari who ascended the Radiant Throne in 2003, succeeding the second Shahanshah, Ardashir Shah Osmani. This succession also marks a rare occasion whereby a smooth transition of power was achieved in micronationalism.

The Babkhan Political System

The Babkhan political system is based on a multi party system, where several parties are represented in the Majlis. The main parties in Babkha are the Babkhan Liberal Centre Party and the Behsaz Party.

The government of the day is appointed by HIM the Shah and the head of government, known as the Grand Vizier, has traditionally been the leader of the majority party in the Majlis. The current Grand Vizier is Emir Ardashir Khan Osmani of the Behsaz Party.

Regional Autonomy

The ten provinces of Babkha retain a high level of autonomy and they are ruled over by Satraps or Governors. Satraps are appointed by HIM the Shah and play an important role in the legislative process of Babkha. The Constitution provides for the establishment of provincial legislatures upon the fulfilment of a minimum population criteria.
